:WELCOME1
Welcome to Daily Calendar!
This program should help you simplify your life by tracking
appointments, names and address and item to do.
Installation and configuration are simple and the program checks
your computer environment to see that all settings are correct.
I hope you enjoy the program, and if you have questions or problems,
please call the Daily Calendar Bulletin Board at (619)-435-0036, or
for voice message/fax support call (619)-435-2687.
:END
:WELCOME2
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE FOLLOWING SCREENS about configuration.
When configuring options for the program, use F1 to obtain help
and tips about set-up options.
Daily Calendar starts in black and white to be sure you can read the
configuration selections. To change colors select OTHER - SET COLORS
from the main menu screen.
:END
:CONFIG1
Daily Calendar requires DOS 3.3 and up or Windows/Windows 95 and
about 400K of free memory. You must have a line in your CONFIG.SYS
file that set files to an odd number of 41 or more. The line should
say FILES=41 (or more). Do NOT include the Daily Calendar directory
in your path.
:END
:CONFIG2
If you are using Windows or Windows 95, you may wish to set the program
to use the full screen and to close the window on exit. No other special
settings are needed and Daily Calendar runs fine under Windows as a DOS
task. For convenience, you may wish to create a shortcut to Daily Calendar
on your desktop.
:END
:PLSREG
If you are not a registered user, please consider registering Daily
Calendar. Daily Calendar is shareware distributed through software
services, retail stores and electronic bulletin boards as a "try before
you buy" program. If you obtained the program from any of these sources,
you are not registered and have only paid the service's distribution
charge. For registration information, please see the documentation.
Thank you for trying Daily Calendar.
- Elizabeth Copper

:NEWVER
It has been detected that you are upgrading from an earlier version
of Daily Calendar. All of your configuration options will be retained
EXCEPT your printer choice. PLEASE BE SURE TO RESELECT YOU PRINTER!
Note that advanced support is available for HP Laserjet printers. Other
new features are described in the READ1ST.DOC file on the distribution
disk. Support is available by Bulletin Board, (619)-435-0036 and by
voice message, (619)-435-2687.
Thank you for upgrading!
:END
:SELPRN
If you have a laser printer than emulates the HP LaserJet II/III/IV,
choose the HP LaserJet *II/III or HP LaserJet *IV selection for
advanced control of your printer. If you have a printer than defaults
or can be set to an Epson FX/MX/LQ mode, choose the Epson E/F/J/RX/LQ
selection. For other printers, choose the closest selection.
:END
:HPLASER
You will have advanced control of HP LaserJet (and many DeskJets)
available whenever you print by pressing Alt L. This will
bring up a menu to allow you to reset lines per inch,
characters per inch, portrait or landscape, manual feed and
tray selection. The default printing modes will stay in effect
unless you press Alt L to change printing modes.
(NOTE: Not all pop-up features work with all models of the DeskJet
printer. Some depend on additional memory/font cartridges.)
:END
:CAL1224
The appointment calendar can be set for an hourly 24-hour calendar
or an half-hourly 12-hour calendar for any 12 hour period in the day.
This is a one-time choice during initial installation and cannot be
changed later except by resetting the start time in the database
utilities menu.
:END
:CALSTART
This choice allows you to reset the calendar start time but does NOT delete
any databases. You can use this option to change from 12 to 24 hour
calendars or to change the start time of 12 hour calendars. All existing
calendar data will be preserved, but in the same relative time slot, NOT
the correct time. As an example, if you had a start time of 7:00 AM and
changed to 6:00 AM, data originally in the 8:00 AM slot (third relative
position) would still be in the third relative position, but this will now
be 7:00 AM. This choice intended to allow new users to change their start
time before they have entered much data.
:END
:PORTCHECK
These tests check to see if the program recognizes your printer and
modem as they are connected to their respective ports. Please see the
documentation for a more detailed discussion of ports. Before testing,
be sure the device is connected and turned on. Test results are
meaningless if nothing is attached to the port or the device is not
turned on. Parallel ports (LPT1-3) are fairly straightforward, but
serial ports (COM1-4) are not. If you cannot make your printer or
modem work, call for support and we will help.
:END
:NON-US PHONE
You have selected non-US phone use. This choice has the following
consequences:
■ All phone numbers must be entered as they need to be dialed, with or
without area codes or country codes.
■ Your long distance prefix will be changed to a blank.
■ If you have already entered numbers in US format, they will still be in
that format, but now all area codes entered will be dialed.
While you can change from US to non-US formats, this option is intended
as a one-time choice at installation to avoid confusion in dialing.
:END
:NOBAK
There is not enough free memory to copy all the databases to the BAK
subdirectory. You will need to copy them from DOS. To see why you do not
have enough free memory, check to see how much memory is used by resident
programs, disk caches, device drivers and menu or shell programs.
:END
:BACKUP DATA
The backup databases created are: DAYBAK.DBF/DAYBAK.DBT,
REDBAK.DBF/REDBAK.DBT and TODOBAK.DBF/TODOBAK.DBT. If you ever have a
database corruption error in any of these databases, go to DOS, delete
the corrupted files (DAY.DBF/DAY.DBT, or REDBOOK.DBF/REDBOOK.DBT or
TODO.DBF/TODO.DBT) and run Daily Calendar. You will be asked if you want
to restore from the backup. This will restore your data as it existed on
the date of your last backup. In addition, ALL your databases have been
backed up to the subdirectory BAK in your Daily Calendar directory.
